FirstPathway Community Development Awarded $50 million in New Markets Tax Credits

MILWAUKEE, Sept. 27, 2023 /PRNewswire/ — The U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFI) Fund announced today that it awarded FirstPathway Community Development (FPCD) $50 million in New Markets Tax Credits (NMTCs). This is the seventh NMTC award that FPCD has received, having received six previous awards with current total awards now at $280 million over the last seven years. The controlling entity for FPCD is FirstPathway Partners, which operates EB-5 regional centers in various states throughout the U.S.

FPCD is committed to improving employment conditions and reducing income inequality in areas of high unemployment in Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana, and Michigan. FPCD will use its NMTC allocation to fund manufacturing and industrial businesses, which create or retain jobs in neighborhoods with areas of high unemployment.

New Markets Tax Credits permit taxpayers to receive a credit against federal income taxes for making equity investments on qualified low-income community investments. The credit provided to the investor totals 39% of the cost of the investment and is claimed over a seven-year period. For every dollar invested by the federal government, the NMTC Program generates over $8 in private investment.

The program addresses one of the most significant obstacles to economic development that low-income communities face: a lack of access to private investment capital. The funding also helps preserve and create jobs while bringing community facilities and new businesses into neighborhoods that desperately need them. The 102 organizations receiving $5 billion in awards under the 2022 NMTC round were selected from a pool of 197 applicants that requested $14.8 billion.

Since 2008, FirstPathway Partners has assisted hundreds of immigrant investors through the employment-based fifth preference (EB-5) immigrant visa category regional center program, participating in nearly $1 billion in development using EB5 funds for job creating enterprises. CHARLESTON, S.C., Sept. 27, 2023 /PRNewswire/ — The Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA) has recently released a modernized Broad Agency Announcement (BAA) updated to include new and revised areas of interest (AOIs) for the development of medical countermeasures (MCMs), including vaccines, drugs, therapies, and diagnostic tools. The new AOIs include the following:

AOI #1.1: Needle-Free Technologies to Administer Licensed Vaccines. BARDA seeks innovations in needle-free vaccine technologies for anthrax, smallpox, and Ebola, focusing on operational improvements and ease of administration, with a consideration for microneedle patches and other needle-free approaches.

AOI #1.3: Flexible Vaccine Manufacturing Technologies. The Vaccines Program seeks proposals for flexible vaccine manufacturing technologies, focusing on rapid development and scalability against multiple threat agents. The goal is to progress vaccine candidates to IND submission in under six months, and demonstrate applicability and scalability across various infectious disease targets, including known and unknown CBRN threats.

AOI #4.2: Uncontrolled Hemorrhage. The Rad/Nuc program seeks innovations addressing U.S. blood supply sustainability, especially during mass casualty incidents, focusing on enhancing safety, availability, and effectiveness of blood products and optimizing transfusion medicine.

AOI #4.3: Radiation Injury and Trauma Pathophysiology. The Rad/Nuc program seeks to understand and define the pathophysiologies caused by radiation or traumatic injuries by supporting the development of assays, therapeutic solutions, diagnostics, and conducting natural history studies.

AOI #5.5: Knockdown Agents/Cellular Asphyxiants. The Chemical Medical Countermeasure (MCM) program seeks MCMs to treat symptoms from cellular asphyxiants, prioritizing easy administration by first responders and effectiveness against smoke inhalation-related cyanide exposure.

The application process under the new BAA involves three stages:

  • Stage 1: Pre-submission call with the AOI Technical Point of Contact.
  • Stage 2: Submission of a Quad Chart/Market Research Abstract.
  • Stage 3: Submission of the final proposal.

The BAA will remain open for a span of five years and will be periodically amended to reflect BARDA’s changing research and development priorities. Durante cerca de um mês (14 de agosto – 8 de setembro), a empresa de pesquisa de mercado IPSOS reuniu informações de 1.781 pessoas em cinco países da região para saber mais sobre seus interesses e hábitos de turismo, assim como seus destinos favoritos e os fatores que influenciam suas decisões de viagens.

Os dados obtidos oferecem uma análise aprofundada das tendências emergentes no setor, apresentando insights cruciais para a Marriott International continuar focada em seu compromisso de proporcionar experiências excepcionais a seus hóspedes. Das maneiras de escolher o destino às experiências mais valorizadas em cada um deles, as informações coletadas são uma fonte inestimável para o setor de turismo e todos aqueles interessados nas tendências que definem o futuro dele na região.

Viajar é prioridade

Dentre as pessoas entrevistadas, 77% afirmaram estar priorizando viagens em seu orçamento para 2024. De maneira similar, dois a cada três entrevistados disseram que nunca foi tão importante tirar um tempo para viajar — esse número atinge 75% entre os Baby Boomers (nascidos entre 1945 e 1964). Além disso, 63% afirmam que pretendem tirar férias como forma de priorizar a saúde e o bem-estar.

Entretanto, quando perguntados sobre a prioridade atual das viagens em seus orçamentos, apenas 27% dos entrevistados mencionaram viajar (e economizar para tanto).

Com que frequência viajam os latino-americanos?

Segundo os resultados do estudo, dentre todas as pessoas ouvidas, incríveis 54% viajaram ao menos uma vez dentro do próprio país no ano anterior, enquanto 32% optaram por viagens internacionais.

Dentre os que viajaram nos últimos 12 meses, 45% realizaram entre duas e três viagens no ano, enquanto 15% fizeram mais de quatro viagens internacionais.

O estudo ressalta que um a cada quatro entrevistados optaram por viagens domésticas de uma semana de duração — o número cai um pouco em relação a viagens internacionais (22%). Já quase um terço (32%) dos entrevistados afirmaram ter feito viagens internacionais com duas ou mais semanas de duração.

Decisões e reservas

Quase metade dos entrevistados (47%) planejam suas viagens com dois a cinco meses de antecedência. Millennials (nascidos entre 1981 e 1996) são mais propensos a aventuras espontâneas: 24% planejam suas viagens com menos de um mês de antecedência. Em contraste, 56% dos Baby Boomers preferem um planejamento de dois a cinco meses.

Com relação aos fatores que influenciam as decisões dos turistas da região, os três mais importantes são, nesta ordem: descontos e preços competitivos, planos All-Inclusive e avaliações/recomendações positivas. As marcas e propriedades da Marriott International oferecem a variedade, os destinos e as experiências considerados mais importantes para os viajantes latino-americanos e buscam sempre oferecer opções mais personalizadas para todos os tipos de turistas.

As preferências dos viajantes

Com relação aos destinos, viajantes da região preferem lugares bem-localizados para conseguir caminhar até as principais atrações turísticas (47%), praias (43%) e regiões de lazer e entretenimento nos centros urbanos (33%). De uma perspectiva geracional, Baby Boomers preferem localizações mais centrais (53%), enquanto a Geração Z (nascidos entre 1995 e 2010) prefere cidades pequenas com atividades e culinária típica (33%).

Especificamente com relação ao Caribe e América Latina, os fatores mais preponderantes para se escolher um destino são praia e relaxamento (44%), atrações culturais (42%) e experiências e gastronomia locais (38%). No entanto, para os Millennials, um dos principais fatores é a existência de atividades para toda a família.

Os resultados do estudo permitem à Marriott International reforçar sua visão, oferecendo as melhores propriedades nos destinos certos para cada tipo de viajante.
